Aval Payasam

Made Aval Payasam after a long time. When my child Aradana was one year old, this used to be her favourite. Now she is four and luckily still liking it.

Coming to the recipe...

Thick Aval (poha) - 1 cup
Milk 1 1/2 cup - Must boil and reduce to 1/2 the quantity to make it thick
Brown sugar - 2 tbs
Milk maid - 1 tbs (just to make it creamy and rich)
saffron strands - 5
5 dry grapes and 5 cashews broken roasted in ghee

- Soak aval for 10 minutes. (only if it is the thick variety or it will get soggy)

- Boil milk and reduce to half quantity, add sugar and saffron strands while boiling

- Add milk maid and leave for a minute

- In the end add aval (poha) and mix.

- Add cashews, dry grapes and off the stove.

If you plan to eat this later after making, you can add the poha just before eating to prevent it from soaking too long in the milk and losing the payasam consistency.

Enjoy the sweet tasting Aval Payasam.
